The session takes place in the ethnography exhibition, which presents Dr. Hugo Šojus’s ethnographic collection assembled in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including Lietuvininkai furniture, tools for work and daily life, lighting devices, and a textile collection. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore unique late 18th-century Lietuvininkai furniture, unlike anything found in any other Lithuanian or foreign museum. They will learn how many candles were lit on the wooden bridal chandelier during weddings and how wrought-iron chandeliers—skillfully crafted by local artisans from difficult-to-work iron—were decorated for celebrations. Visitors will also discover why the distinctive adornments worn by Lietuvininkai women… delmonai were hidden beneath aprons (šiuršiais), what inscriptions Lietuvininkai women wove into their selected woven sashes, and why in the Nemunas Delta and coastal region these sashes were called pakėlikėmis. During the session, participants can listen to stories told in the old Lietuvininkai dialect, and at the end they will enjoy a photo session with traditional accessories as well as a corner for ancient fortune-telling.
